We meet one evening a week on Wednesdays from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. to reflect on scripture, discussing a book of the Bible or a topic. Below is a list of types of series we have or are currently engaged in.
Advent 2019: Epiphanies and Dreams – In this series of 4 sessions through the Lens of the Birth narratives in gospels of Matthew and Luke we explore epiphanies of God’s grace in our own lives as well as personal dreams that inspire and guide us.
Epiphany 2020: The Gospel of John – By agreement of the group we are moving slowly savoring and exploring the richness and complexity of this gospel. We completed the first five chapters and will return to the gospel during Eastertide.
Lent 2020: Thursdays 6:30-7:30 A comparison of the Passion Narratives The four gospels are facets of an exquisite gem of God’s love for the world. Each Gospel writer organizes the events that led up to the crucifixion of Jesus in a way that is consistent with the overarching portrait of Jesus they create for the community, (audience). Over the course of 4 weeks together we will explore all four narratives side by side and discover similarities and subtle differences as we reflect through the lens of the text and art. We will move fluidly between the community of the gospel to our own community.
Bible Basics Sundays in Lent 11:45 after coffee hour: Over the course of three sessions the nuts and bolts: — of the history of the organization of the word of God into a Sacred Text that informs our faith life is presented: — the overarching four fold story of God author of all, God acting in History and in our lives that flows from Genesis to Revelation: Creation – Relation-Crisis-Christ. — How to read the sacred text to fuel our faith and as an adventure that brings to life nuances from external connections to the community of the sacred text and before the sacred text and internal evidence within the text.
